The Frisia IX is a passenger ferry operated by the Norden-Frisia shipping company and is mainly used between Norddeich and the East Frisian island of Juist .
The ship was built at the Julius Diedrich shipyard and delivered to the shipping company in 1980. The ship was supposed to replace the Frisia III , but it turned out to be too slow for trips to Heligoland . That is why the ship was used for regular trips between Delfzijl and Greetsiel and Norddeich.
In 1993 the ship was extended from 42 meters to its current length of 57 meters. Since then, the ship has also been the main ferry on the island of Juist. The Frisia IX also goes to Norderney less often, as cars can also be transported on the deck; In Norddeich, however, they have to be driven backwards onto the loading area.
Technical Equipment
The ship is powered by two six - cylinder four - stroke diesel engines from the manufacturer AB Volvo Penta, each with an output of 300 kW , which act on two fixed propellers via gears.
Two generators with an apparent power of 210 kVA and 86 kVA are available for the power supply.
