The WDG-6G is a large diesel locomotive from Indian Railways with electrical power transmission in three-phase technology , which belongs to the ES58ACi type family from GE Transportation Systems (GE). By the summer of 2020 six locomotives were delivered, all the guided GE depot Roza Junction (ROZA) in Uttar Pradesh are allocated. With a provisional approval, the locomotives may run at a maximum speed of 65 km / h.
The series designation is made up of W for wide ' Breitspur ' , D for diesel , G for goods 'Güter' for freight locomotives and the 6 after the hyphen, which stands for a locomotive with an output between 6000 and 7000 hp .
history
GE signed a contract worth 2.5 billion in November, 2015. US dollars for the supply of 1,000 diesel locomotives, including 300 pieces of series WDG-6G . The contract includes the maintenance of the locomotives as well as US $ 200 million for the construction of a locomotive manufacturing plant in Marhowrah, Bihar . The first locomotives were built at GE's Erie plant in the US and arrived at the Mundra port in Gujarat in April 2019 and received provisional approval in November 2019.

The WDG-6 is from a 16-cylinder - four cycle - diesel engine of GEVO driven -Typenfamilie. The engine can deliver up to 6000 hp and meets the UIC I emissions standard . With a maximum axle load of 24.1 t, the WDG-6G is a lighter version of the ES58ACi bought by Estrada de Ferro Carajás in Brazil , which has a larger tank and a maximum axle load of 33 t.
The diesel engine transfers its power to the main generator, which is flanged directly to the crankshaft , which generates three-phase alternating current. This is rectified and fed to the drive inverters in IGBT technology assigned to the individual axes , which in turn generate three- phase alternating current of variable frequency for the three-phase asynchronous traction motors .
The bogies , known by GE as high-adhesion trucks, have three axles, which are provided with dead-bearing drives arranged against the center of the locomotive . The bogie frame is supported by twelve coil springs on the axlebox bearing bracket - two for each bracket. The longitudinal drive is carried out by axle links. The locomotive frame is supported by eight rubber layer springs on the two rocker-less bogies, with the springs being arranged on the side member of the bogie between the axles at the points where the two middle cross members are connected to the side members of the bogie. The longitudinal forces are transmitted from the bogie to the locomotive body via a sleeve that is connected to the cross member between axis 1 and 2 of the bogie frame with rubber layers and encompasses a kingpin on the locomotive body.
