The International University in Germany in Bruchsal was a private , state-recognized university in Germany.
The university, which was founded in 1998, was no longer able to secure the financing for the continuation beyond 2009; the shareholder Educationstrend GmbH was no longer willing to compensate for the losses. On July 22, 2009, it was therefore decided to stop teaching at the end of 2009. Students who are enrolled after August 31, 2009 will continue their studies at other universities.

On the initiative of the state of Baden-Württemberg and a number of regionally based companies such as SAP , Klaus Tschira Foundation , Alcatel / SEL , Bosch , Deutsche Telekom , Hewlett-Packard , IBM , the IU was founded in 1998 with DM 10 million by the state, but without the To belong to shareholders . On June 27, 2007, the Hamburg investment company Educationtrend AG, which was founded in 2005, took over the entire company shares in the private university. Educationtrend GmbH is 100% owned by Aton GmbH , founded by Lutz Helmig , the former main shareholder of Helios Kliniken .
The state of Baden-Württemberg last set the deadline for submitting the mandatory application for accreditation of the university to the Science Council at 2011 at the latest. Successful accreditation is a prerequisite for the state for an independent right to confer doctorates .
