Lutz Helmig

Lutz Mario Helmig (born January 26, 1946 in Güsen ) is a German surgeon and entrepreneur. He is the founder of Helios Kliniken and the holding company Aton GmbH .

Life

Lutz Helmig grew up in Trier from 1948 to 1965 . From 1965 to 1971 he studied medicine at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg and the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . Helmig received his doctorate in 1972 and approved . From 1971 to 1977 he trained to become a specialist in surgery / vascular surgery . From 1977 he worked as a vascular surgeon in the Oberwald Clinic in Grebenhain , in which he also held a 33.3% stake until the Helios Clinics were sold. In July 2013 Helmig settled all debts of the Grebenhain community (where he has had his primary residence since 1977) in the amount of 2.1 million euros through a donation of the same amount, on condition that the community submit a balanced budget in the following three years can. In November 2015 Helmig donated 200,000 euros to the FDP. Another donation to the FDP of 300,000 euros followed at the beginning of 2017. Lutz Helmig is married and has two children.

Clinic societies

Helmig rose in 1982 as a complement to the clinic Oberwald KG Grebe Hainer district Oberwald one. In 1987 he founded the hospital society Dr. Helmig GmbH as well as, together with the lawyer Bernard Große Broermann , the Asklepios Clinics Group. In 1994 Helmig separated from the Asklepios Clinics Group. He became managing director of the hospital company Dr. Helmig GmbH, which was renamed Helios Kliniken GmbH in 1995 . From 1994 to 1999 he was the managing partner of Helios Kliniken GmbH. In 2000 he withdrew from the operative business. He and his family last held 94% of the company until they sold it to the health care group Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA in October 2005 for 1.5 billion euros . Assets and holdings in companies

In 2001 Helmig founded Aton GmbH in Fulda , which primarily manages the family assets. In 2011 Aton had sales of around 1.9 billion euros. Horus Finanzholding GmbH, also founded by Helmig, also manages the assets. In February 2006 Helmig joined the airline dba with 25.1% . The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Helmig remained co-owner until December 2006 when dba was taken over by Air Berlin . As a farewell, he gave each dba employee 195 shares in Air Berlin worth over 3,000 euros. In the same year Helmig took over 100% of the ordinary shares of the engineering service provider EDAG from the founding families. In January 2008 Helmig bought 14.1 million Lufthansa shares and gained 3.11% in the airline. In August 2009 Helmig acquired 8% of the shares in Dürr AG for 15.4 million euros and thus achieved a blocking minority . On September 6, 2012, the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg announced the sale of almost 9% in the building society and insurance group Wüstenrot & Württembergische to Helmig. The shares are held by Horus Finanzholding GmbH . In July 2012 Helmig acquired almost 48% of the private bank Ellwanger & Geiger from the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg. In 2014 Helmig and his Horus Holding took over 77% of the asset manager Spiekermann & Co. After the IPO of EDAG in December 2015, Helmig acquired further shares in the automotive service provider for 16.6 million euros and thus held over 60% of the shares. In March 2017, Helmig became the new main shareholder of V-Bank with his Horus V-Bank Holding .

In August 2017, Helmig's net worth was listed in Forbes Magazine The World's Billionaires at $ 2.2 billion. He was ranked 1290 among the richest people in the world and 84th among the richest Germans.
