I Am You - Mörderische Sehnsucht (Original title: In Her Skin ) is an Australian film drama directed by Simone North from 2009. The film is based on a real crime in which a young dancer was kidnapped and killed by her former nanny in 1999. The main roles are played by Guy Pearce , Miranda Otto and Ruth Bradley . The film was released in Germany on September 9, 2011 directly on DVD and Blu-ray.

Melbourne, 1999: 15-year-old dance student Rachel is missing. The parents are in an uproar, but the police are rather disinterested. It is suggested early on that the former nanny Caroline kidnapped the girl. Caroline suffers from a mental disorder and melts into self-loathing. She tries to appropriate the victim's life and eventually kills Rachel.

The script is based on the book Perfect Victim written by Rachel's mother. The case rocked the city of Melbourne in 1999 due to the brutality with which the crime was committed. In November 2000, Caroline Reid Robertson was sentenced to 20 years in prison, of which at least 13 years must be served.
criticism
The film magazine Cinema described the film in the DVD review as "oppressive and brutal factual thriller about destructive self-hatred and the suffering it causes". In the director's feature film debut, “the recordings fluctuate between unsettling restraint and unbearable eruptions of violence”. Lead actress Ruth Bradley shines as a depressed Caroline. The film service called the film a "formally ambitious thriller that focuses on the person of the perpetrator", but creates "no coherent psychogram of the character".
