I Miss You is a song by the American singer and songwriter Miley Cyrus . It was released on June 26, 2007 as a promotional record from their debut album Meet Miley Cyrus . The title gained notoriety in 2007 as it is addressed to the singer's grandfather, who died in 2006.

Production and recording

The song was written by Miley Cyrus , Wendy Foy Green and Brian Green , the latter also serving as a producer . The song is credited to Cyrus and her maiden name Destiny Hope Cyrus .

The singer had a very close relationship with her grandfather Ronald Ray "Ron" Cyrus . A few years before his death, he contracted mesothelioma , a rare cancer disease . The musician later interrupted writing the song because she found it difficult. After a while, Cyrus resumed work on the song. However, she could never sing the song for her grandfather, even if her father told Billy Ray Cyrus that he played "a small excerpt" for him shortly before death. The man finally died on February 28, 2006 at the age of 70.

Promotion / charts

On the Best of Both Worlds Tour (Fall / Winter 2007/08) she sang the song regularly in the encores in the unplugged version, and she also appeared on various TV shows ( The Oprah Winfrey Show ). The song landed at number 9 on the US Billboard - Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles and number 27 in the Pop 100

  • The first excerpts of the song could be heard in an episode ( She's A Supersneak / In Secret Mission ) of the first season of Hannah Montana . There, however, under her Miley Stewart role situation, that she misses her late mother.
  • In a background scene at Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert you can see Cyrus teaching her father Billy Ray Cyrus the song. In between you can see the tour performance again and again.
