Breakout is the second studio album by the American singer Miley Cyrus and at the same time her first album, which was created independently of the Hannah Montana series and its soundtracks . It was released on July 22, 2008 under the label Hollywood Records and reached No. 1 and platinum status in the United States .

background

With the release of Breakout, Cyrus had the goal of proving herself as an independent artist after her success as a singer through the series Hannah Montana and wanted to show this with the album title. Furthermore, Cyrus said that the lyrics of the songs meant more than those of their previous album. Some of the songs, such as 7 Things or Full Circle , Cyrus wrote about her former partner Nick Jonas shortly after the breakup, which also influenced their sound.

Musical style

The album mainly contains songs from the field of pop-rock . However, some songs also have influences from other genres, for example breakout , which falls into the dance-pop category . The album features both fast dance songs and ballads.

Published singles

7 things

The album's first single, 7 Things , was released on June 17, 2008 and was written by Cyrus himself, among others. It was repeatedly claimed that Cyrus wrote the song through her ex-partner Nick Jonas , although Cyrus never confirmed or denied this. The music video belonging to the single was shot on May 30, 2008 in Los Angeles and released on June 28, 2008. The song was ranked 9th in the United States and 17th in Germany .

See You Again (Rock Mafia Remix)

The second single on the album was the Rock Mafia Remix by See You Again , with the original version of the song already on Cyrus' previous album Meet Miley Cyrus .

Fly on the wall

Fly on the Wall was released as the third and final single on the album on February 27, 2009 after the music video premiered on December 5, 2008. Although the song received many positive reviews, it failed to match the success of the previous two singles at # 84 in the United States .
