Party in the USA is a song by the American singer Miley Cyrus . The song was written by Jessie J , Dr. Luke and Claude Kelly written and directed by Dr. Luke produces. On August 11, 2009, the song was released by Hollywood Records as the first single from Cyrus EP The Time of Our Lives . The single reached the top ten in the charts in eight countries. In the United States, the song debuted straight at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went seven times platinum.

Cyrus said Party in the USA pays homage to the US and chose the track as the first single from their EP The Time of Our Lives . Party in the USA was recognized by most of the critics. Michael Hann of The Guardian , UK, says Party in the USA is a cute pop song. Mikael Wood of New York City's Time Out magazine describes the song as a "killer song [...] that shows that Miley can be a better rapper than you ever expected." About.com's Bill Lamb gave Party in the USA four out of five stars for Cyrus' vocals and lyrics. Allmusic's Heather Phares called the song one of the EP's best, describing it as a hymn for Cyrus as Hannah Montana . Erik Ernst of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says the song is "tremendously catchy." Mikael Wood of Entertainment Weekly explains that Party in the USA is Cyrus' entry into the urban music scene, having previously enjoyed success in other music markets.

Music video

For the music video shoot, Cyrus contacted Chris Applebaum, who made the music video for Party in the USA , and Miley Cyrus herself acted as the director. Miley Cyrus mostly dances in the music video with her dancers in front of a gigantic flag of the United States. At the MuchMusic Video Awards 2010, the music video won an award in the MuchMusic Video Award for Best International Artist Video category and was nominated in the MuchMusic Video Award for People's Choice: Favorite International Video category.

Charts and awards

Party in the USA debuted at number 2 on the official American Billboard Hot 100 in the week of August 29, 2009, and this remained the song's highest ranking in the United States. In the first week, the song sold about 226,000 times through download sales. In the United States, the song was honored seven times with a platinum record for sales over seven million units. In the United Kingdom, Party in the USA entered the charts at number eleven, which also remained the highest ranking.
