Ian Wood (born February 10, 1964 in Rotherham , England ) is a former Canadian - German ice hockey goalkeeper .

Career

In 1980, Ian Wood's ice hockey career began in the youth league of the Canadian state of British Columbia . In the two years he also convinced those in charge of the NHL club Edmonton Oilers , who thereupon; as the first 17-year-old goalkeeper from the BCJHL , in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft in 188th position (9th round). He stayed for three years with the Portland Winter Hawks in the WHL . In 1985 he won the silver medal with the Canadian national ice hockey team in Prague. But he no longer saw an NHL chance, so he moved to Germany. In the second division he played from 1986 for the Krefeld EV . After the 1989/90 season at ESV Kaufbeuren , he stayed with Duisburger SV for two years . He played for Augsburg EV for three years . In 1994 Ian Wood got a chance in the newly created DEL , in which he played for the Ratinger Löwen . In his third year he said goodbye after ten games in the Sauerland for the Iserlohner EC . The then second division had a changeable season in which the goalie brought stability. He stayed in Iserlohn for over three and a half years before ending his career due to an injury.

In 1999 Wood in Iserlohn opened a 270 m² branch of the "Louisiana" restaurant chain as a franchise partner in the Iserlohn cinema center together with a business partner. The operation has meanwhile been stopped again.

Since then, the audience favorite and two-time "Sportsman of the Year" of the Iserlohner Kreisanzeiger has not been on the ice, but has been a member of the ECD tradition team since February 2006.

Wood, who still lives in Iserlohn, has been responsible for the German national para-ice hockey team as General Manager since 2016 .
