Ibn al-Jazari ( Arabic ابن الجزري, DMG Ibn al-Ǧazarī , also Ibn al-Jazari ; * November 26, 1350 in Damascus ; † December 6, 1429 in Shiraz ), tooشمس الدين أبو الخير محمد بن محمد بن محمد بن علي بن يوسف العمري الدمشقي / Shams ad-Dīn Abū l-Ḫair Muḥammad b. Muḥammad b. Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. Yūsuf al-ʿUmarī ad-Dimašqī , was a Faqīh , Qādī and Koran scholar.

Life

Ibn al-Jazari a traditional education received in his hometown in the fields hadeeth and Qira'at (readings of the Koran), was the age of thirteen to Haafiz , took place in 1367 with his father's Hajj and then sat in Cairo , Damascus and Alexandria his studies on the Koran, Hadith and Fiqh continued. From 1373 he received from Ibn Kathīr the approval ( Idschāza ) as Mufti , in 1391 he was appointed by Sultan Barquq to the Shāfiʿitic Qādī. In the meantime Ibn al-Jazari had begun to give Qirāʾāt lessons himself. After Barquq Ibn al-Jazarī's possessions had been confiscated under circumstances that were not entirely clear, he subsequently lived in Bursa . After Tamerlan's victory in the battle of Ankara , he sent him to Samarqand . After Tamerlan's death Ibn al-Jazarī was able to leave Transoxania again, traveled to Khorasan and was once again appointed Qādī in Shiraz. After further stays in Basra , Mecca and Medina , he returned to Shiraz, where he died in 1429.

meaning

Ibn al-Jazari wrote numerous treatises on various subjects, but especially on the Qirāʾāt, Fiqh and Hadīth. His works on the readings of the Koran and on the Tadschwīd are considered classics.

Ibn al-Jazari's historical works are of interest as contemporary sources on events such as the battle of Nicopolis and contain a great deal of autobiographical information, as a result of which many details are known about Ibn al-Jazari's curriculum vitae.
