occupation

I am not brave is a German short film that combines the genre of children's films with that of horror films . The plot is based on the short story Man in the Mirror by Shalom Auslander . The film was released in 2011 .

action

Seven-year-old Arthur tosses around in bed at night and doesn't even dare to go to the toilet at the end of the hallway because he's scared of everything: heights, monsters, ET

Arthur's only companion in the family is the house dog Noodles. His idiosyncratic grandmother Antje and his big sister Nina maintain an emphatically distant relationship with him. When Arthur was given a superhero costume for his birthday, Nina persuaded him that if the mask was worn too long, it would eat into the skin of his face. When he tries to tell his mother Hanne this, Nina claims that in this case the telling monsters would haunt him at night .

After Arthur witnesses his mother having to wipe a urine stain from Antje (“Your grandma had a little accident.”) From the carpet, he seems to have come up with the perfect solution for his nocturnal toilet problem: instead of taking the walk every evening trying to get to the bathroom, Arthur simply begins to urinate on the carpet regularly. Every morning Hanne kneels over a new stubborn urine stain and scrubs. "Has grandma had another little accident?" The son grins. Arthur's lies don't bring lasting happiness to Arthur. Hanne gives Noodles away because she thinks they are the nocturnal culprit. Grandma Antje shows no sympathy. Arthur decides to take revenge and renew the urine stains every evening. One morning Nina explains to him that Grandma Antje has come to a house where her needs can be better taken care of. Arthur is now enthusiastically hoping to get Noodles back. But Nina points to a grave in the garden and claims it was Noodles', "Nobody likes peeing dogs." That night Arthur went to the toilet for the first time; he realizes his mistake: "I am not brave".
