Icon Productions is an American film production company.

history

In 1989 Mel Gibson founded the production company Icon Productions together with Bruce Davey to produce the film Hamlet . Icon first entered film distribution in 2008 when it acquired Dendy Cinemas, Australia's largest independent film distributor and art house cinema.

In September 2008, Davey and Gibson, together with Majestic Library, began selling Icon's international sales and film distribution divisions. The British operations were sold to the US industrial group Access Industries . The new company continues to use the Icon name and signed a three-year contract with Icon Productions to distribute the international rights to the productions. The sale was completed in November 2009. The deal included Icon's international sales company, UK-based sales organization and Majestic Films & Television-Libray, but not Los Angeles-based Icon Productions LLC, which is still owned by Davey and Gibson.
