University of Idaho
The University of Idaho (official abbreviation UI , common nickname U of I ) is the oldest state university in the US state of Idaho . It is located in the north of the state in the city of Moscow . Its 11,000+ students make up almost half of Moscow's population.
The university campus, the largest in Idaho in terms of area, is one of the most beautiful in the western United States. It is located in the rolling hills of the Palouse region and was designed by the Olmstead brothers, the sons of the landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted (including the designer of New York's Central Park and the area surrounding the United States Capitol ).
The university is a sponsor of the Juneau Icefield Research Program, which has been researching the glaciers of southern Alaska since 1947.
history
The university was officially founded on January 30, 1889 by the signing of a corresponding law by Edward A. Stevenson , the governor of the Idaho Territory . Almost four years later, on October 3, 1892, the college opened.
