Ignatius Gopu

Ignatius Gopu MSFS (born July 1, 1912 in Rentachintala , † August 2, 1981 ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Visakhapatnam ( India ).

Church career

On September 28, 1945, Ignatius Gopu was ordained a priest in the community of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales .

He was appointed coadjutor bishop of the Indian diocese Visakhapatnam on December 10, 1963, at the same time he was appointed titular bishop of Feradi Maius . The episcopal ordination received his April 7, 1964 Archbishop James Robert Knox , Internuncio in India, co-consecrators were Joseph Mark Gopu , archbishop of Hyderabad and Joseph Albert Rosario , Bishop of Amravati .

On October 4, 1966, Ignatius Gopu became Bishop of Visakhapatnam.

Ignatius Gopu attended the third and fourth sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father .
