Ignaz Franz Keiblinger

Ignaz Franz Keiblinger (born September 20, 1797 in Vienna ; † July 3 or 4, 1869 there ) was an Austrian historian .

Life

Coming from a humble background, his parents working in the monastery office enabled him to attend the Melk Abbey High School. There he was already interested in historical studies, in which he was supported by Abbot Anton Reyberger . He then studied philosophy in Vienna and entered Melk Abbey as a novice in 1814 . He completed his theological studies at the Göttweig Abbey and at the seminary of the diocese of St. Pölten . The vows followed in 1818, the ordination as a priest in 1820. First he was a teacher at the collegiate high school, then professor of morals at the Melk theological college. He was also a librarian and archivist in the monastery. In 1848 he became a corresponding member of the Vienna Academy of Sciences .
