Count Ignaz Felix von Törring-Jettenbach (born November 28, 1682 in Jettenbach , † August 18, 1763 in Munich ) was a German military and field marshal of Bavaria and foreign minister.

Life

In 1698 he completed his high school studies at the Jesuit high school in Munich (today Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich ) and then studied law at the University of Salzburg.

Ignaz Graf von Törring - Jettenbach was the first minister and general of Elector Maximilian II Emanuel and after his death from 1726 one of the conference ministers and foreign ministers of the Electorate of Bavaria, as well as the first advisor and good friend of the Bavarian Elector Karl Albrecht , later Emperor Karl VII.

In the War of the Austrian Succession , Törring was deployed as commander-in-chief of the Bavarian troops against Maria Theresa from 1741, although he was more a politician than a general . He was one of the few imperial generals who fought for the Wittelsbachers. As early as 1742, after defeats, he had to give up command under pressure from France, but the reason was an eye disease.

As a representative of the great power politics of Bavaria and a friend of France , his declared goal as Foreign Minister was the unification of Bavaria with France, which he never quite achieved. In 1753 he was overthrown as foreign minister.

In Munich , Count Ignaz Felix von Törring-Jettenbach had Johann Baptist Gunetzrhainer build the Palais Toerring-Jettenbach from 1747 to 1758 .
