Ignazio Bedini

Ignazio Bedini SDB (born June 27, 1939 in Sassomorello near Prignano sulla Secchia , Province of Modena , Italy ) is an Italian religious , missionary and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Isfahan .

Life

After joining the order of the Salesians of Don Bosco , at the age of 18 he asked if he could go on a mission. He was first sent to Lebanon to complete his philosophical and theological studies there in Beirut . After four years he moved to Tehran . He was on 21 December 1969 in Gethsemane ( Jerusalem ) for ordained priests . He returned to Iran, where he worked as a teacher and chairman of the Don Bosco College.

On December 2, 1989 appointed him Pope John Paul II. Archbishop of Isfahan and donated to him on January 6, 1990 at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Giovanni Battista Cardinal Re and Archbishop Miroslav Stefan Marusyn . Bedini resided in Tehran .

He was chairman of the Iranian Bishops' Conference from 2003 to 2008 and again from 2011 , although he was the only member of the Latin rite while all others belong to the Armenian and Chaldean rites .

On January 20, 2015, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
