Igor Evgenjewitsch Konaschenkow ( Russian Игорь Евгеньевич Конашенков ; born May 15, 1966 in Kishinew , Moldovan SSR ) is a Russian major general . He has headed the press office of the Russian Defense Ministry since 2011 .

Life

Konaschenkow graduated in 1988 from the engineering faculty of the commanding college "Lenin Komsomol" for radio electronics of the air defense forces with "distinction". His military career began with the space forces, in the main air defense command. In 1998 he graduated from the Vasilevsky Military Academy of Air Defense of the Russian Federation and became head of a group and deputy to the head of the department for public relations with Russian and foreign mass media of the press service of the Ministry of Defense. From 2003 he worked as head of the press service as well as press officer of the commander of the armed forces of the North Caucasian military district and from 2005 as head of the press service of the army and press officer of the commander-in-chief of the army. He led various departments of the information and press service of the combined armed forces of the North Caucasus and the peacekeeping forces in the zone of the Caucasus War . In 2006 Konashenkov graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff and from 2009 served as Deputy Press Office Chief of the Ministry of Defense. On August 30, 2011, he was appointed head of the Ministry of Defense's press office. On February 21, 2013, the President of the Russian Federation appointed him Major General.

During the Russian military operation in Syria , he conducted daily briefings for the press.
