Igor Jurjewitsch Martschenko ( Russian Игорь Юрьевич Марченко ; born November 26, 1975 in Rostov-on-Don ) is a former Russian swimmer and Olympic participant.

successes

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 , Martschenko took 19th place (100 m butterfly) and 9th place (4 × 100 m medley). Four years later he was able to improve and came in 5th place (100 m butterfly) and 4th place (4 × 100 m medley) at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens .

At the 2003 Swimming World Championships in Barcelona , he finished 4th in the 100 m butterfly with 51.95 seconds behind Andrij Serdinow (51.59 seconds) and won the silver medal with the relay (4 × 100 m medley). The Russian relay set a new long -course European record with a time of 03: 34.72 on the 50-meter track . At the 2005 World Swimming Championships in Montreal , he finished 4th in the 100 m butterfly with 52.35 seconds, behind Andrij Serdinow (52.08 seconds), but won the relay (4 × 100 m individual medley ) together with Arkady Vyatchanin , Dmitri Komornikow and Andrei Kapralow the silver medal.

At the 2002 Short Course World Championships in Moscow , Martschenko won two bronze medals (100 m butterfly and 4 × 100 m medley).

With the Russian relay (4 × 100 meter medley), Martschenko together with Yevgeny Aljoschin , Roman Sludnow and Alexander Popov became European champions at the 2002 European Swimming Championships in Berlin .

At the European Short Course Championships in Riesa in 2002 , he won two bronze medals (50 m butterfly and 100 m butterfly).

In 2002 he was third overall at Mare Nostrum on the European Mediterranean coast.

Martschenko was several times Russian champion (2000-2002 over 50 m; 2001-2004 over 100 m; 2002, 2007-2009: relay 4 × 100 m).

In 2009 he ended his ten-year career and then worked as a sports commentator for the television channel Eurosport .
