Igor Alexandrowitsch Sokolow ( Russian Игорь Александрович Соколов ; born January 2, 1958 in Ufa , Russian SFSR , USSR ) is a Soviet- Russian sports shooter . In 1980 he won the Olympic gold medal in shooting at the running target .

Athletic career

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , Sokolow and Thomas Pfeffer from the GDR achieved a new world record with 589 rings, Sokolow received the Olympic gold medal because of the better result in the last round. In 1981 Sokolow won the European Championships in front of Pfeffer, Pfeffer won the 1981 World Championships in Buenos Aires, while Sokolow was only fourth.
