Sport Shooting World Championships
World Championships in shooting sports are every four years by the International Shooting Sport Federation organized.
history
The first official world championships in shooting sports were held in Lyon in 1897 . Five competitions were held with a free rifle, in the disciplines lying, kneeling and standing from a distance of 300 meters, another competition was held from the three positions, as a three-position fight in individual and in a team, then these five competitions were held annually held as world championships. In 1900 the first world championships with the pistol followed in Paris , a free pistol was used with a distance of 50 meters in individual and team, this was then continued annually. It was not until 1929 in Stockholm that the throwing pigeon shooting was added as a world championship, here two competitions in the trap individual and team were held. Also in Stockholm in 1929 the running deer, later running boar or running disc, was added, four competitions were held here. Once in a single shot and double shot as well as in a single shot and a team. In the course of the world championship all competitions were then modified. The most successful shooter of all world championships is the Swiss Konrad Stäheli with 41 gold, 17 silver and 11 bronze medals from 1898 to 1914, making him the most successful athlete in the overall medal table of all world championships of Olympic sports. Until 1958 only men competed in world championships in shooting sports, only from 1958 there were isolated competitions for women.

- Combination pistol for women 1966–2002
Throwing pigeons
World championships in throwing pigeon disciplines are held every four years with three types of pistol:
- Trap since 1929
- Double trap since 1990
- Skeet since 1947
Running disc
The world championships in the running boar and running target are held annually, except in the years of the Summer Olympic Games:
- Running deer 1929–1962
- Running boar since 1962
- Running target since 1981
