Igor Vasilyevich Talankin

Igor (Industri) Wassiljewitsch Talankin ( Russian И́горь (Индустрий) Васи́льевич Тала́нкин ) (born October 3, 1927 in Bogorodsk (today: Noginsk ), USSR; †  July 24, 2010 in Moscow ) was a Soviet film director and Russian screenplay director .

Life

Talankin attended the Alexander Glasunow School for Music and Theater, where he completed his training in 1950. He then studied at the Faculty of Directing of the State Academy for Theater Arts (GITIS) (graduated in 1955).

In 1959 he finished the advanced courses for screenwriters (scenario writers) and directors at the film studios " Mosfilm ", after having worked there as a director since 1958 . Two years later Talankin made her debut with the film Serjoscha together with Georgi Danelija . This film debut by the two young directors won an award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival .

Igor Talankin also wrote the scripts for his films. The music for this was mainly written by the Soviet composer Alfred Schnittke .

From 1964 Talankin taught at the Gerassimow Institute for Cinematography (WGIK) as head of a master class for directors and actors, and from 1976 he was professor there.

Talankin died in July 2010 at the age of 83.

Honors

His film Tchaikovsky was nominated for best foreign language film in 1969 for the Academy Award and in 1972 for the Golden Globe Award . Talankin was 1965 Honored Artist of the RSFSR , 1974 People's Artist of the RSFSR and 1988 People's Artist of the USSR . In 1977 he was awarded the Soviet Order of the Red Banner of Labor , and in 1998 the Russian Order of Merit for the Fatherland 4th grade. On January 21, 2003, he received a letter of thanks from the President of Russia for his great contribution to the development of national cinema.
