Ike Isaacs (guitarist)

Ike Isaacs (* 1. December 1919 in Rangoon , Burma ; † 10. January 1996 in Sydney , New South Wales ) was a British jazz - guitarist of Swing .

Ike Isaacs was self-taught on his instrument and began his professional career when he was a chemistry student. In 1946 he moved to England , where he worked as a freelance musician. He played for several years with Ted Heath , in 1956 with George Chisholm and 1968 with Barney Kessel . In the 1950s he appeared with his quartet on the weekly BBC show Guitar Club . He worked as a studio musician in the 1960s and 1970s and played frequently with Stephane Grappelli , with whom he performed at Diz Disley ’s Hot Club . Isaacs also played with Digby Fairweather , Len Skeat and Denny Wright in the formation Velvet in the 1970s . He played in a duo with Martin Taylor .

In the 1980s Isaacs moved to Australia where he taught at the Sydney Guitar School . However, he kept returning to the UK for solo performances and guitar all-star formations.
