The Illtal-Gymnasium Illingen (IGI) is a general educational high school in the (neuter) sponsorship of the Neunkirchen district in Saarland .
School profile
The pupils of the Illtal-Gymnasium learn at least two modern foreign languages. You start with French as your first foreign language and learn English from grade 6. In the linguistic branch, Spanish or Latin follows as the third foreign language in grade 8, while in the mathematics and natural sciences branch, physics is taught as the fifth major.
In addition, there is the possibility of attending the bilingual branch, in which more French lessons are given in grades 5 and 6, followed by French-language lessons from grade 7 onwards in other subjects (history, social studies, geography). Grades 10 to 12 of the bilingual train are completed with the German-French Abitur AbiBac , which was passed for the first time in June 2009.
The IGI has long-term school partnerships with Tuchów ( Poland ) and Civray ( Vienne , France ).
history
The school was founded in 1966 as a modern language grammar school under the name Staatliches Realgymnasium Illingen i. A. (under construction), the Saarland was the sponsor. It started with 226 students in the first grade 5 and was added to a new grade every school year. In 1971 the current building was occupied. In 1973, when the school was fully expanded, it was renamed Staatliches Realgymnasium Illingen. In 1974 the high school's committees decided on the name Staatliches Illtal-Gymnasium, in the same year the first 67 high school graduates were released.
Due to numerous school projects within the framework of the goals of UNESCO - u. a. of the school project Aktion Patenschule or Aktion Palca , which has been running since 1975 and is dedicated to supporting third-world projects - the Illtal-Gymnasium was named the first Saarland UNESCO school (later UNESCO project school ) in 1989.
In 1992 the school passed from the sponsorship of the state to that of the district of Neunkirchen (Name: Illtal-Gymnasium Illingen. School of the district of Neunkirchen).
After a campaign of signatures among all school members, the IGI received the award SOR-SMC ( School without Racism - School with Courage ) in 2004 .
The IGI has been involved in an EU- funded Comenius project since 2008 .
In the so-called Abitur double year 2008/09, a total of 187 high school graduates were dismissed in the two grades from the eight-year ( G8 ) and the nine-year grammar school.
