In Doubt for the Defendants (Original title: Question of Privilege ) is an American - Canadian thriller from 1999 . Directed by Rick Stevenson , the script was written by David Schultz .
action
The action takes place in a small Canadian town. After the rape and death of a girl, authorities suspect Joel Aldridge, his brother Ian and two other wealthy families of teenage boys as perpetrators. They spent the evening before the murder with the girl. The suspects are arrested; during the interrogation they say they are innocent.
Andrea Roberts, the lawyer entrusted with the defense, proves procedural errors to the authorities and obtains her release. Her husband, Carter, who worked for the judiciary on the case, is fired, putting a strain on the marriage.
An unknown person kills one of the suspects. Roberts investigates and reveals the background to the murder.
Reviews
The magazine Prisma wrote that the “exciting psychological thriller” posed the “explosive question” of whether there were “two types of jurisdiction” - “one for the rich and one for the poor” .
