In These Stones Horizons Sing
These Stones Horizons Sing is a choral and orchestral work by the Welsh composer Karl Jenkins . The work was commissioned for the opening of the Wales Millennium Center in Cardiff and was premiered there on November 29, 2004 in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II . These Stones Horizons Sing includes lyrics in English and Welsh by Menna Elfyn , Grahame Davies and Gwyneth Lewis .
construction
The roughly 15-minute work is divided into four movements , the first of which is divided into two parts. The sentences are overwritten as follows:
- "Agorawd" [Overture] (Text: Menna Elfyn)
- Part I: "Cân yr Alltud" [The Exile Song] (Welsh)
- Part II: "Nawr!" [Now!] (Welsh / English)
- "Gray" (English; Text: Grahame Davies)
- "Eleni Ganed" [Born This Year] (Welsh; Text: Menna Elfyn)
- "In These Stones Horizons Sing" (Welsh / English; Text: Gwyneth Lewis)
The instrumentation of the work is for baritone , mixed choir , piccolo , 2 flutes , 2 oboes , English horn , 2 clarinets , bass clarinet , soprano saxophone , 2 bassoons , contrabassoon , 4 horns , 3 trumpets , 3 trombones , 1 tuba , timpani , percussion , harp and strings .
