Indium (I) chloride is an inorganic chemical compound of indium from the group of chlorides .

Extraction and presentation

Indium (I) chloride can be obtained by reacting indium with chlorine or indium (III) chloride in vacuo at 300 to 400 ° C or with mercury (II) chloride at 350 ° C.

properties

Indium (I) chloride is a yellow diamagnetic solid. There are two known modifications with yellow or (from 135 ° C) red crystals. Its melt is red to black. They have a distorted sodium chloride structure with the space group P 2 1 3 (space group no. 198) and the lattice parameter a = 12.37 Å . The distortion is attributed to covalent In + –In + bonds.
