Inge Hammarström (born January 20, 1948 in Sundsvall ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League from 1963 to 1982 .
Career
Inge Hammarström began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of Wifsta / Östrands IF - from 1966 Timrå IK - for whose professional team he was active from 1963 to 1968 in Division 1 , the highest Swedish division. In the 1966/67 season he was honored as the best Swedish young player. From 1968 to 1973 the winger played for Brynäs IF , with whom he won the Swedish championship three times in a row in 1970, 1971 and 1972 . On May 12, 1973 he signed a contract as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs , where he was one of the top performers in the National Hockey League for the next four years . After he had started the 1977/78 season in Toronto, he was transferred to the St. Louis Blues after only three season assignments on November 1, 1977 in exchange for Jerry Butler , where he spent the following two years. Most recently he played again in his Swedish homeland for his ex-club Brynäs IF in the Elitserien from 1979 to 1982 , before ending his career at the age of 34. With Brynäs he was again national champion in the 1979/80 season .
International
For Sweden , Hammarström took part in the World Championships in 1971 , 1972 , 1973 , 1979 and 1981 . He was also in his country's squad at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo and 1976 at the Canada Cup . At world championships he won two silver and three bronze medals with Sweden.
