Ingo Günther (artist)

Ingo Günther (* 1957 in Bad Eilsen ) is a German media artist. He lives and works in New York .

Life

In 1977 Ingo Günther began studying ethnology and cultural anthropology at the University of Frankfurt am Main , from 1978 to 1983 he studied at the State Academy in Düsseldorf and in 1982 became a master student of Nam June Paik . In 1983 he received the PS1 scholarship from the art academy. After brief teaching positions at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig in 1985 and in Münster from 1986/87 as well as at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1987, he worked mainly in the USA and founded the World Space Corporation there in 1987. In 1989 he founded the independent TV station Kanal X in Leipzig , which began broadcasting in April 1990. From 1990 to 1994 he was professor at the Art Academy for Media Cologne , 2001 to 2003 professor at the Zurich University of the Arts and 2006/07 professor at the Tōkyō Geijutsu Daigaku (東京 藝術 大学, Tokyo University of the Arts).

He received an art award in Glockengasse (Cologne) and the award of the Kulturkreis des Bundes der Deutschen Industrie in 1988. In 1990 he received the sponsorship award from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for young artists . This was followed in 1997 by the Stankowski Foundation Prize and the ZKM / Siemens Media Art Prize. He received the prize of the Sprengel Museum Hannover in 2003.
