Ingo Andreas Rust (born January 17, 1978 in Heilbronn ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been Finance Mayor of the city of Esslingen am Neckar since February 2015 . From May 1, 2003 to January 31, 2015, he was a member of the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg and from 2011 to 2015 State Secretary in the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Finance and Economics .

Ingo Rust began his school career at the primary school in Abstatt before he attended the Ilsfeld secondary school and the technical high school in the technical school center in Heilbronn . In 1997 Ingo Rust graduated from high school there and then completed military service in Bruchsal and Ulm . He studied mechanical engineering at the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences in Esslingen am Neckar and graduated in 2004 as a Dipl.-Ing. (FH) . Since then he has been working part-time at Esslingen University as an engineer in research.

Political career

Ingo Rust joined the SPD in 1996. In 1999 he was elected as the youngest member of the Abstatt Municipality Council, of which he was a member until 2011. Also in 1999 he was elected to the district executive of the SPD district association Heilbronn-Land. From 2000 to 2001 he was district chairman of the Jusos in the city and district of Heilbronn. In September 2006 Ingo Rust was elected as district chairman of the SPD district association Heilbronn-Land after the previous district chairman Alexander Bergtold resigned his office before the end of the electoral term. In 2009, Rust handed over the district chairmanship to Cornelia Bär-Stoll. From 2009 to 2011 he was the first deputy mayor of the Abstatt community.

In the 2001 state elections, he became a substitute candidate for Wolfgang Bebber in the Eppingen state constituency , whom he succeeded in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg after his retirement from politics in 2003. From 2004 to 2006 he was European policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. In the state elections in 2006 Ingo Rust won the second mandate in the Eppingen constituency; The replacement applicant was Hans Heribert Blättgen . In 2005 Rust became chairman of the finance committee of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg and in 2006 also spokesman for church policy for the SPD state parliamentary group, both of which he remained until 2011. After the state elections in 2011 , he was appointed state secretary in the ministry for finance and economics.

On December 15, 2014, the city council of Esslingen am Neckar elected Ingo Rust as finance mayor of Esslingen. He took office on February 1, 2015, and Hans Heribert Blättgen moved up for him in the state parliament.

Private

Ingo Rust is married and lives with his wife and two children in Esslingen am Neckar.
