Initiative group Alpbach Vienna

The IG Wien (actually Initiativgruppe Alpbach Wien ) is an association based in Vienna and cooperates as an 'Associate Member' with both the European Forum Alpbach and the EFA network. The main task of the association is to finance and award scholarships to students and alumni for participation in the European Forum Alpbach and to promote and deepen European discourses in culture, politics, economy and science through regular public discussion events in Vienna.

history

The IG Wien was founded in 2006 by Nina Abrahamczik , Philip Aumüllner, Carmen Fischer, Lisa Fuchs, Anna Lawrenjuk, Katharina Norden, Matthias Reisinger , Alexander Schultmeyer, Gregor Schütze and Alma Zadić ; since then it has attended the European Forum Alpbach every year with around 20 representatives. In 2009 the IG Wien organized an international conference on European integration in Vienna under the motto “Strong beyond borders” . In 2012 the association attracted attention across Austria through its commitment to freedom of expression (“Busek Riot”) and the voice of youth. The bullshit bingo campaign "Forever Young" criticized the homogeneous , gerontocratic occupation of a podium on the future of youth and finally succeeded in swapping Christoph Leitl's place with a student.
