Inked in Blood is the ninth studio album by the American death metal band Obituary . The group financed the recordings of the album through a crowdfunding campaign at kickstarter.com . It was released on Relapse Records at the end of October 2014 .
Emergence
The writing of the pieces dragged on over a period of four to five years. In the fall of 2013, the band initiated a campaign on kickstarter.com, in which they were able to collect a total of around 45,000 US dollars for the recording of a new studio album. The musicians limited their live activities and began in their home studio Redneck Studios in Gibsonton to produce finished songs from the demo recordings that had been made over the years . For the mastering , they enlisted the help of Mark Prator, especially to mix the vocals. The studio recordings of the album also took place in April 2014 at Redneck Studios . At the beginning of June 2014 Relapse Records announced that the label would release the new studio album. The publication took place on October 24, 2014 in Germany, the BeNeLux countries and in Finland, on October 27, 2014 worldwide excluding North America and on October 28, 2014 in North America.
The album cover shows a blood-smeared torso with incised band lettering and was drawn by Andreas Marschall .

The reviews of the album were mostly positive. Robin Geiß from laut.de writes that Inked in Blood does not offer anything new, but that is not expected from Obituary either. His summary is that the band "[delivers] really good material that shows no signs of wear and tear". The Rock Hard counted the album in November 2014 issue of the ten best releases of the month, while there but offer no surprises "usual solid quality" and there was "cool riffs [...] en masse to discover". The Metal Hammer praises the precise and not overproduced sound of the album and the "wonderfully rolling groove ".
In the first week after its release, the album sold around 5,200 copies in the US alone and entered the Billboard 200 at number 75. Inked in Blood entered the German album charts at number 56 and the Swiss album charts at number 65.
