Early works

The novel was in 1950 with the prestigious Akutagawa Prize awarded. A simultaneous success was his short novel Das Jagdgewehr , which impresses with its narrative technique: A lonely hunter, motivated by his previously published poem Das Jagdgewehr , presents the narrator with three farewell letters: from his wife, his lover and their daughter. The reader is told the story of adultery, a forbidden love marked by loneliness and emotional coldness.

The trip to Samarkand (1968-1969) authored Inoue primarily as a historian and traveler. He describes the past and present of the ancient cities in Central Asia and the caravan routes that connect them. The story Meine Mutter (1975) is designed in the form of traditional records.
