The village was first mentioned in a document in 937 and probably existed until 1403 . Insleben is said to have suffered severe damage as early as 1213 and 1215 when the place served as an army camp for the Brunswick troops of Otto IV . Many of the surviving residents are said to have moved to what was then Neustadt around today's Hohepfortestrasse. Further devastation was caused by the flooding of the Elbe.

The remains of insleben came into the possession of the Maria Magdalene monastery and the St. Georg hospital . At the siege of Magdeburg 1550 / 1551 during the Schmalkaldic War the last remnants Inslebens were destroyed.

Insleben also gave its name to the Insleber Gate of Magdeburg Neustadt (later Mitteltor, Sieverstor or Schützentor), through which the route from Neustadt via Insleben to Rothensee led. Today the Insleber Straße in Magdeburg still reminds of this place.
