The Institute for Vocational Education and Training (IBAF) is the largest Diakonie educational institute in Northern Germany and offers basic and advanced training in the field of social and health care.
The IBAF is recognized as a non-profit GmbH and organizes over 300 qualification events annually in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.
General
The IBAF was founded in 1976 as the education department of the Diakonisches Werk Schleswig-Holstein and became an independent company in 1994. IBAF GmbH is exclusively non-profit. The majority shareholder is the Diakonisches Werk Schleswig-Holstein. The other shareholders are: Ev.-Luth. Diakonissenanstalt Flensburg (Diako), Diakoniewerk Kropp Foundation, Vorwerker Diakonie Lübeck, Diakonie Hilfswerk Schleswig-Holstein Rendsburg, Ev. City Mission Kiel, State Association for Internal Mission Rickling, North German Society for Diakonie e. V. (NGD) Rendsburg. Irene Wolf has been the managing director since October 1, 2017. The head office is in Rendsburg. Branch offices are located in Kiel , Neumünster , Hamburg , Lübeck and Norderstedt .
In 2017, around 3,500 people took part in IBAF training measures.

IBAF schools
Nursing training centers in Rendsburg, Neumünster, Noderstedt and Lübeck (Stockelsdorf)
- The IBAF's first geriatric care school was founded in 1976. IBAF training in geriatric care has been officially recognized since 1980. Around 550 pupils are trained in the IBAF nursing training centers every year. This makes the IBAF in Schleswig-Holstein one of the largest providers of training in the field of elderly care.
School of Speech Therapy
- The school has existed since 1996 and is located in Kiel (Kiel Castle). The clinic of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel is a co-sponsor of the school. The school for speech therapy is the only training facility for speech therapy in all of Schleswig-Holstein.
Deaf technical school for social professions
- The school has existed since 1995 and is located in Rendsburg. Every year around 50 hard of hearing and deaf people are trained to become educators , geriatric nurses , socio-educational assistants and geriatric care assistants. There is a cooperation with the Theodor Schäfer Vocational Training Center .

- Motopedagogy (including psychomotor skills , movement with the elderly and people with disabilities)
