The Institute for Political Science (IPW) is the political science institute of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and integrated into the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences there. It has existed since 1958 and has since produced and employed numerous important personalities in the field of political science , for example Dolf Sternberger , one of the founding fathers of modern political science in the Federal Republic of Germany.

history

Since the institute was founded in 1958, the IPW has earned a consistently high scientific reputation. This applies, for example, to the comparative study of political systems , the area of domestic politics / the political system of Germany, and international comparative state activity research. Since it was founded, the institute was initially part of the University's Philosophical Faculty and was only incorporated into the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences when it was founded in 2002. Like the Max Weber Institute for Sociology and the Alfred Weber Institute for Economics, the IPW has been based on the newly founded Bergheim campus since 2009 (formerly the Ludolf Krehl Clinic).

Since the turn of the millennium and supported by the " Excellence Initiative of the Federal Government and the States to Promote Science and Research at German Universities" as well as several university expansion measures by the State of Baden-Württemberg , areas such as international relations and especially comparative foreign policy and conflict research , modern politics Theory as well as analytical and international comparative political economy and policy field research have been significantly strengthened.
