Jale Tosun

Jale Tosun (born June 10, 1980 in Gomadingen ) is a German political scientist and professor at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Education and research focus

Jale Tosun studied from 2000 to 2006 at the Universities of Konstanz and Pavia management science and a doctorate from 2006 to 2009 at the University of Konstanz in the subject Political Science . Her doctorate with the title “Policy and Institutional Change in Emerging Market Democracies. Which Factors Account for Environmental Policy Making in Eastern Europe and Latin America? ”Was awarded the 2010 environmental prize by the“ Environment and Housing at the University of Konstanz ”foundation. From 2006 to 2012 she was a research assistant at the chair for “Comparative Policy Research and Administrative Science” at the University of Konstanz, before moving to the Mannheim Center for European Social Research (MZES) in 2012 . At the University of Heidelberg , Jale Tosun initially represented the junior professorship “International Comparative Political Economy” at the Institute for Political Science in the 2013 summer semester . From October 2013 to February 2015, Tosun then held the junior professorship for “International and Comparative Political Economy”.

Tosun has been Professor of Political Science since March 2015. Tosun is also an External Fellow at the Mannheim Center for European Social Research ( University of Mannheim ), was a Fellow at the Marsilius College of Heidelberg University and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE) since the summer semester of 2017. Her previous guest stays have taken her to various foreign universities such as Rutgers University (USA), University of Virgina (USA), York University (Canada) and the University of Vienna .

Tosun's research focuses on comparative studies of regulation in the areas of the environment , energy, climate change and sustainability as well as distribution conflicts within the European Union and the influence of the European Union on regulation in third countries. She coordinates the joint research project CUPESSE, funded by the European Union, on the causes and consequences of youth unemployment in Europe . In addition, she is active in the Network Water Research Baden-Württemberg funded joint research project Effect-Net.

Jale Tosun is co-editor of Policy Sciences and the Zeitschrift für Umweltpolitik & Umweltrecht , as well as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of European Public Policy and Journal of Environmental Policy and Planning and the Public Policy book series at Palgrave Macmillan .
