The International Ornithologists' Union (IOU) is the successor to the International Ornithological Committee (IOC), which existed between 1884 and 2010. It is an international body made up of over 200 ornithologists. The IOU aims to research the anatomy, migration, lifestyle and protection of birds in their natural habitat. In addition, the International Ornithologists' Union deals with the breeding, domestication, taxonomy and nomenclature of birds.
