International Forum of Catholic Action

The International Forum of Catholic Action ( en . : International Forum Catholic Action , abbreviation: IFCA, fr . : Forum International Action Catholique , abbreviation FIAC, official abbreviation: FIAC / IFAC ) is an association of believers in the Roman Catholic Church . The forum was founded in 1991 on the initiative of several international associations of Catholic Action. In 1995 it received papal recognition from the Holy See and is represented in over 26 countries worldwide.

history

On the initiative of the Argentine, Spanish, Maltese, Mexican and Italian Catholic Actions , the “International Forum of Catholic Action” (FIAC / IFCA) was initially founded in smaller circles after the Second Vatican Council . The forum received increased popularity after the publication of the post-synodal apostolic letter Christifideles laici by Pope John Paul II (1978–2005), which was published in 1988. The inaugural meeting took place in Rome in 1991 , the FIAC worked from 1994 to 2000 as a promoter of continental encounters, seminars and an educational week . On June 29, 1995, the Forum received the papal recognition decree from the Pontifical Council for the Laity .

Self-image

The main focus of the Forum of Catholic Action lies in getting to know and understand each other about Catholic Action from different countries. It wants to increase problem-solving and deepen dialogue , including interfaith dialogue . For this purpose, the forum organizes and supports international meetings, congresses and educational events.

Organization and expansion

The highest governing body of FIAC is the General Assembly , which is convened every three years. The General Secretariat is elected by it, which represents the forum externally, coordinates communication , is responsible for initiatives and implements the decisions of the General Assembly.

The general secretariat is headed by the general secretary , who is currently assigned the presidents of Catholic Action of Argentina , Burundi , Italy , Romania and Spain , a coordinator , the church assistant , an advertising specialist for public relations , an administrator, a secretary and an assistant each for the national president.
