The International Catholic Child Bureau ( English : International Catholic Child Bureau ; French : Bureau International Catholique de l'Enfance ; abbreviation: BICE ) is an association of believers in the Roman Catholic Church . The non-governmental organization has been recognized by the Holy See and is represented in several world organizations. It has 174 member organizations worldwide, spread across 35 countries. She is committed to the rights of children and their holistic growth.

history

The association was founded in Paris in 1948 . Its active participation in international organizations earned the office worldwide recognition, and in 1989 the office made a decisive contribution to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child . BICE is a member of UNESCO , UNODC , the Council of Europe , the EU-LAC and the International Network for Children's Rights.

Self-image and actions

The working basis lies in the Christian image of man , culture , community and religion . The work focuses on poor and disabled children, street children , drug addicts, war victims, prostitutes and raped children. The actions are preferably aimed at the psychological and intellectual needs of the child. In 2014, for example, BICE collected more than 10,000 signatures against “harassment on the Internet”. For their actions and projects, the BICE leads the preparations, designs pilot projects and supports long-term research programs.

Organization and expansion

174 organizations from 35 countries around the world belong to BICE. The general assembly , as the highest body, meets annually and elects a board of directors . This 15-person committee sets the guidelines, defines action programs and projects and controls the basic plans of the General Assembly. The elected executive committee consists of the president and his deputy, the treasurer and the church assistant . The regions of Africa , Latin America , Asia and Europe are represented by a delegation . The headquarters of BICE is in Paris, and a UNESCO liaison office is in Geneva .
