Ioan Șnep

Ioan Gabor Șnep (born July 12, 1966 in Negreşti-Oaş ) is a former Romanian rower who was second in the 1988 Olympics in the four-man team .

Athletic career

The 1.92 m tall Ioan Șnep won the Junior World Championships in 1984 together with Dragoș Neagu and helmsman Iulian Sacheralescu in two with helmsman . At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, he achieved the breakthrough in the adult class when he won the Olympic silver medal behind the four-man from the GDR together with Dimitrie Popescu , Valentin Robu , Vasile Tomoiagă and helmsman Ladislau Lovrenschi . In the following year, Șnep competed in two boat classes at the 1989 World Championships : with Dragos Neagu he took fifth place in the two-man without helmsman , with Neagu and the helmsman Marin Gheorghe he won the silver medal behind the Italian two-man with helmsman. At the 1990 World Championships , the Romanian two-man with helmsman in the same line-up took fourth place. The next year Șnep started again in two boat classes at the 1991 World Championships : together with Dănuț Dobre , Dragoș Neagu, Valentin Robu and helmsman Dumitru Răducanu , he won another silver medal, the title went to the German four-man with helmsman. All rowers of the four were also in the Romanian eighth , which took fourth place. At the end of his career, Ioan Șnep finished thirteenth in the four without a helmsman at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

Ioan Șnep is married to the rower Doina Bălan .
