Dănuț Dobre

Dănuț Dobre (born February 20, 1967 in Feteşti ) is a former Romanian rower , who was second in the Olympic championship in two without a helmsman in 1988 and second in the eighth in 1992 . At world championships he also won silver twice.

Athletic career

Dănuț Dobre won the 1985 Junior World Championships in a four-man without a helmsman . The 1.92 m tall Dobru won his first medal in the adult class at the 1987 World Championships in Copenhagen, when he and Dragoș Neagu finished second behind the British Andrew Holmes and Steven Redgrave but ahead of the world champions rowing for the Soviet Union from 1985 and 1986 Juri and Nikolai Pimenow took. The following year at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, the Pimenovs competed in a foursome. In the final, the British were 1.22 seconds ahead of the Romanians at the finish, followed by the Yugoslavs who won the bronze medal.

Dobre did not appear again internationally until 1991 when he won the silver medal at the 1991 World Championships in Vienna together with Dragoș Neagu, Valentin Robu , Ioan Șnep and helmsman Dumitru Răducanu , the title went to the German four-man with helmsman. With the Romanian eighth, Dobre took fourth place in Vienna. The following year at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​Dobre and Robu were among the Romanian eighth. The Romanians won their preliminary run ahead of Germany eighth and their semi-finals ahead of the Canadians. In the final, the Romanians won the silver medal 0.14 seconds behind the boat from Canada.
