Dragoș Neagu

Dragoș Neagu (born February 28, 1967 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian rower , who was second in the two-man championship in 1988 without a helmsman . At world championships he won three silver medals and one bronze medal in four different boat classes.

Athletic career

Dragoș Neagu won the Junior World Championships in 1984 together with Ioan Șnep and helmsman Iulian Sachelarescu in two with helmsman . In 1985 he took second place with Adrian Zamfir and helmsman Marian Nae. The 1.98 m tall Neagu won his first medal in the adult class at the 1987 World Championships in Copenhagen when he and Dănuț Dobre finished second behind the Britons Andrew Holmes and Steven Redgrave , but ahead of those rowing for the Soviet Union World champions from 1985 and 1986 Juri and Nikolai Pimenow . The following year at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, the Pimenovs competed in a foursome. At the 1989 World Championships in Bled, Neagu started in two boat classes with Ioan Șnep. In the two without a helmsman, the two took fifth place. With helmsman Marin Gheorghe they won silver behind the Italian boat with the two-time Olympic champions Carmine and Giuseppe Abbagnale and Giuseppe Di Capua . In 1990 Neagu reached fourth place with the controlled two at the World Championships in Tasmania. In 1991 Neagu and Șnep switched to the four-man with helmsman . At the 1991 World Championships in Vienna Dănuț Dobre, Dragoș Neagu, Valentin Robu , Ioan Șnep and helmsman Dumitru Răducanu won the silver medal behind the German four-man. The following year, at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​Neagu joined Vasile Tomoiagă in two without a helmsman. After third place in the preliminary run, they finished last in the repechage.

After a year break, Neagu competed in two boat classes at the 1994 World Championships . With the four without a helmsman , he took twelfth place. The Romanian eighth won the bronze medal behind the host country's boat and the Dutch. In 1995 Neagu competed at the World Championships in Tampere in singles and doubles , but did not reach any top places in either boat class.
