Iodoacetamide (more precisely 2-iodoacetamide) is a chemical compound from the group of acetamides .

properties

Iodoacetamide is a light yellow solid that is soluble in water.

use

Iodoacetamide serves as an alkylating agent for cysteine residues in peptide sequencing . By reacting with cysteine it is an irreversible inhibitor of enzymes with cysteine as an active center. Iodoacetamide reacts much more slowly with histidine residues , but this reaction is responsible for the inhibition of the ribonuclease .
