Iohexol is a mixture of several isomeric chemical compounds that belong to the halogen aromatic compounds and polyols . It is very soluble in water and is used in medicine under the trade name Omnipaque ® as an iodine-containing contrast medium . When administered intravenously, iohexol is used to visualize blood vessels during x-ray examinations ( angiography ). Since the active substance is completely excreted via the kidneys , it is also suitable for excretory urography and for determining renal clearance .
