Iossif Pavlovich Woizechowski

Iosif (Osip) Pavlovich Woizechowski ( Russian Иосиф (Осип) Павлович Войцеховский , Ukrainian Йосип Павлович Войцеховський Jossyp Pawlowytsch Wojzechowskyj * 1793 in Zebermanowka in Uman , † November 17 jul. / 29. November  1850 greg. In Kazan ) was a Ukrainian - Russian doctor , sinologist and university professor .

Life

Woizechowski was born in Zebermanowka, today's Ivanivka in the west of the Ukrainian Cherkassy Oblast . He studied at the Kiev-Mohyla Academy in Kiev and then at the Medical - Surgical Academy in Saint Petersburg , graduating in 1819.

Right after graduating, Woizechowski became a doctor of the 10th Russian Spiritual Mission in Beijing . After the successful healing of a relative of the Chinese emperor, a memorial plaque was placed on Woizechowski's house on the mission site, the inscription of which the doctor compared with the healer Chang Sangjun, described by Sima Qian in Shiji , who was the teacher Bian Ques .

After his return in 1831 Woizechowski was appointed to the chair of Chinese and Manchurian literature at the University of Kazan . Nikolai Ivanovich Sommer was one of his students .
