Aspidiske , Bayer name Iota Carinae (ι Carinae) is the fourth brightest star in the constellation Kiel of the ship .
Aspidiske belongs to the spectral class F0 (Morgan-Keenan A81b) and has an apparent brightness of +2.26 m , making it one of the 100 brightest stars in the night sky. It is about 800 light years away and has a luminosity 5000 times that of our sun .
The IAU Working Group on Star Names (WGSN) defined the proper name Aspidiske on July 20, 2016 as the standardized proper name for this star.
