Ipomoea Horsfalliae is a plant type from the genus of Morningglory ( Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae).

description

Ipomoea horsfalliae is a perennial climbing plant with twisting, woody and corky stems . The leaf blade is circular in outline, 5 to 20 cm long and divided up to over halfway to the base in five to seven (rarely only three) segments. The middle segment is usually longer than the others, egg-shaped or elliptical tapering to a point at both ends, the tip is pointed to blunt and prickly. The remaining segments are oval-lanceolate to linear. All are whole, toothed or notched.

The flowers are in axillary little to multi-flowered cymes on 1.5 to 14 cm long inflorescence stalks . The flower stalks are about 1 cm long, the sepals are ovate, concave and almost uniform and 7 to 10 mm long. The crown is bright red to purple, plate-shaped and about 4 cm long. The coronet is five-lobed. Stamens and stylus protrude beyond the crown.

Occurrence and use

The species grows in forests at higher altitudes. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in the tropics . Their original homeland is Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname.

Systematics

Within the genus of morning glories ( Ipomoea ), the species is classified in the series Eriospermum of the section Eriospermum in the subgenus of the same name Eriospermum .
