Irineu alleys
Irineu Gassen OFM (born November 24, 1942 in Santa Cruz do Sul , Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil ) is a Brazilian religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Vacaria .
Life
Irineu Gassen joined the order of the Franciscans in the Province of St. Francis of Assisi (Brazil), made his profession in 1966 and was ordained a priest on July 27, 1968 . He was provincial minister of his order and pastor of the parish "São João Batista" in the diocese of Caxias do Sul.
In 2008 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Vacaria. He was ordained bishop on July 27, 2008 by the Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy , Cláudio Cardinal Hummes, OFM; Co- consecrators were his predecessor Bishop Orlando Octacílio Dotti OFMCap and the Bishop of Santa Cruz do Sul, Aloísio Sinésio Bohn .
On May 9, 2018, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
