Irmbert Schenk

Irmbert Schenk (born April 28, 1941 in Stuttgart ) is a German media scientist .

biography

education and profession

Schenk graduated from school in Stuttgart with numerous student political activities and graduated with the Abitur . He studied theater studies , Romance studies , literary studies , psychology as well as comparative literature and art history in Rome, Munich, Vienna, Paris and Berlin. Additional studies at theater and film academies in Germany and abroad as well as internships and the like a. at the Piccolo Teatro Milan and the Berliner Ensemble completed the training. He completed his studies with a Magister Artium (MA) in theater studies and received his doctorate as Dr. phil. in literary studies and qualified as a professor in media studies. He was a co-founder of the Bremer Kommunalkinos , the International Bremen Symposium on Film and the Bremen Film Prize and has held several visiting professorships in Italy, Argentina and Austria.

From 1971 to 2006 he was a professor for media studies at the University of Bremen .

Teaching and Research

The focus of his work is on film studies , in particular European film history , film analysis , film reception and cinema as a place of psychosocial practice. With the question of the audience, he aims to expand the history of film in terms of cultural studies and social history. Further questions concern the history of television and television programming as well as the area of intermediality .
